Hymn Reflection #23–Count Your Blessings

1 When upon life’s billows you are tempest tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your blessings, see what God hath done;
Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done.

2 Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, ev’ry doubt will fly,
And you will be singing as the days go by.

3 When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings, money cannot buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

4 So, amid the conflict, whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

What a wonderful way to think…. Counting our Blessings. Naming them one by one. Have you ever tried it? Have you ever just sat and thought about how many blessings you actually have? God has blessed us abundantly and we can never count all the Blessings He has bestowed upon us. They are as numerous as the sands on the seashore.

When you are discouraged… count your blessings. Is your cross to heavy to bear at times?… count your blessings. When you look at others with their lands, gold or even better health… don’t be discouraged…. count your blessings. Whatever the conflict is whether great or small…. count your blessings.

I have tried counting my blessings and it does help your perspective of life. I want to do it more often. It helps lift your spirits and it gives glory to our Heavenly Father. It helps you see the bigger picture that our God has planned for us. I must admit the challenges that I face right now can feel very overwhelming but I challenge you this week to join me in counting your blessings. Find something everyday to be grateful for and share it with someone else who might need encouragement.
