The Cup
Here are some excerpts from a sermon I heard recently. It was deeply touching and encouraging to me so I thought I would share it in case it could encourage someone else. I must admit I have not done well at facing the cup God has given me. I am still learning how to be content and not fight against the cup. I am so thankful God never gives up on me. Sometimes I feel like I am so slow at learning the lessons I need to learn. But God is faithful and I hope that you find that true in your own life as well. It’s my prayer that you can come to a place of Facing what God has given in your life and not fighting against it. These thoughts echo my heart’s cry. 💞
Don’t fight the cup but face it.
The cup was planned by the Father.
The cup Always has suffering.
The cup Always has a resurrection on the other end.
Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.) So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into its sheath; shall I not drink the cup that the Father has given me?”
John 18:10â€-‬11 ESV
Verse 1
What tho’ the way be lonely
And dark the shadows fall
I know where’er it leadeth
My Father planned it all
Verse 2
The sun may shine tomorrow
The shadows break and flee
‘Twill be the way He chooses
My Father’s plan for me
CH
I sing through shade and sunshine
I trust what e’er befall
I sing, I can’t be silent
My Father planned it all
Verse 3
He guides my falt’ring footsteps
Along the weary way
For well He knows the pathway
Will lead to endless day
Verse 4
A day of light and gladness
On which no shade will fall
‘Tis this that last awaits me
My Father planned it all
But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death.
Philippians 3:7â€-‬10 ESV
