Hymn Reflection #23–God Leads His Dear Children Along

  • In shady, green pastures, so rich and so sweet,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Where the water’s cool flow bathes the weary one’s feet,
    God leads His dear children along.
  • Refrain:
    Some through the waters, some through the flood,
    Some through the fire, but all through the blood;
    Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song,
    In the night season and all the day long.
  • Sometimes on the mount where the sun shines so bright,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Sometimes in the valley, in darkest of night,
    God leads His dear children along.
  • Though sorrows befall us and Satan oppose,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Through grace we can conquer, defeat all our foes,
    God leads His dear children along.
  • Away from the mire, and away from the clay,
    God leads His dear children along;
    Away up in glory, eternity’s day,
    God leads His dear children along.

God Leads His Children along, through fire, flood, joys and sorrows. Sometimes there are shady cool pastures and cool water flowing, sometimes the sun is shining, or perhaps we go through a dark time. Sometimes Satan opposes us and tries to get us down but through grace we can conquer all the foes.But through it all God Leads Us gently along. He will never leave us unless we leave Him. He is always near, guiding us through life. And someday He will lead us up to Glory to be with Him.

As always I hope you can read this hymn and find hope. No matter what you are going through God is leading us. Trust Him. I leave you to ponder this great promise. “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you” (Deuteronomy 31:6).
